Bonis, Edward J. "Uncle Ed" Ed was born in Milwaukee on September 7, 1917, and was born to Eternal Life on Saturday, February 6, 2010, in his 93rd year. Ed was the youngest of eight children born to his parents, Antony and Jadwiga (Piasecka) Bonis, who preceded him in death along with his siblings (and their spouses), John (Victoria), Casmir (Hortense and Alice), Francis (Mary), Roman (Marie), Angeline, Walter, and Helen (Andrew Sr.) Geiger. Ed was a special member of the Geiger Family and was a proud great-uncle to Andrea (Vito) Sorce, Amy (Prameet) Chadha, and Tony Geiger. He was an integral part of their lives having spent 31 years sharing the ups and downs of family life with them and their parents, Andrew and Barbara. Clare Chadha will remember Ed as her special Uncle E-Dee who loved having tea parties, picnics and playing catch. Ed's nieces and nephews include the late Dorothy (the late Robert) Garfield, the late Ruth (the late Gerald) Bergmann, Patricia (the late Charles) Pajunen, Andrew (Barbara) Geiger, Robert (the late June) Bonis, John Jr (Florence) Bonis, Margaret Williams, Michael (Helen) Bonis, Judy (Ken) Burkhalter, Dennis (Mary) Bonis, Grace (the late Rudy) Pelikan, Richard (Jewel) Bonis, and Romaine (Jerome) Paveglio. He received 7 Battle Stars and 2 Bronze Arrowheads for amphibious landings. He was honored to serve his country and never forgot his fallen comrades. Ed returned to Wisconsin after WWII and earned his BA from UW-Madison. He was determined to make life better for the children entrusted to his care at the Milwaukee County Children's Home. When the boys in his care expressed an interest in scouting, Ed became a leader so they could participate fully in the local Boy Scout Council. When the Children's Home closed, he continued his work with the children of Milwaukee County by helping to establish the day care unit at the Department of Social Services. Ed retired from Milwaukee County in 1980. Ed was a member of The American Legion (Wiley Herda Post) and the Franciscan Third Order. A devout Catholic, he was a member of St. George Melkite Greek-Catholic Church and memorials made to the church in Ed's name are appreciated. The family wishes to thank: Dr. Anil Garg for carefully monitoring Ed's health for the past 25 years; the Very Reverend Father Philaret Littlefield for his visitation and prayers; and the entire staffs of Park Hills West and Allay Hospice for their care and support.
