George Spurgeon, 56, of 218 Berner Street died at 11pm last night at the Langlade County Memorial Hospital after a month's illness.
Born April 18, 1900, in the town of Vilas, he had been a lifelong resident of Langlade County. In 1939 he moved from the town of Vilas to Antigo.
On March 11, 1923, he was married to the former Lottie Smith in Antigo. Mr Spurgeon was employed at the Prosser Bros. farm until a month ago.
Surviving besides his wife are four sons, Harold and Raymond of Milwaukee, and Ray and George of Antigo; two daughters, Mrs Glen Bown of California, and Mrs Edward Schmutzer of Neva; six grandchildren; three brothers, Edward of Antigo, and Thomas and James of Phillips; and four sisters, Mrs Elizabeth Hinkley of Phillips, Mrs Sepha Bures of Antigo, Mrs Cora Forsestall of Lake Bluff, ILL and Mrs Helen Strandberg of the town of Vilas.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2pm at the Calvary Lutheran church with the Rev James Nelson officiating. Interment will be in the family lot in the Elmwood cemetery.
Friends may call at the Muttart-Conrad funeral home from 1pm Tuesday until the hour of services.

A daughter of the late Mr and Mrs John Schmidt she was born Oct 18, 1902, in Antigo. She and the late George Spurgeon were married March 11, 1924 in Antigo.
Surviving are four sons, Harold of Valders, Ray of Milwaukee, Roy and George Jr both of Antigo, two daughters: Mrs Glen (Marcella) Bown of Spooner, and Mrs Ed (Mae) Schmutzer of Bryant, a sister, Mrs Leon (Esther) Higgins of Embarress, four brothers, John of Chicago, and Wiley, George and Ray of Antigo, 15 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
Services will be at 11am Saturday at Calvary Lutheran Church with the Rev H D Luelkehoeller officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the Soman Strasser Funeral home after 4 pm today and again at the church after 9:30am Saturday until the times of services.
