Roy Reddie was sponsered by the U.S. Gov. to come to the States for his Ex. in Mining and Geology.[Cowan, J. Email Apr 11, 2004]
The family was living either in New Market in 1910 or it could have been in Spruce Pine , North Carolina.
Don't know how long they were in New Market. By the early 20 s , they had gotten to Knoxville and lived in an area called Park City. (Woodbine ave.) All children went to old Knoxville High School in the 20 s. Mom was the last to graduate and that was around 1929. I think that my Dad graduated from the Univ. of Ga. about the same time---1929 maybe 1930.Roy Reddie probably left Aberdeen Scotland around 1881 or 1882 for Australia with relatives.
And his wife Catherine Shucksmith probably left Grimsby England sometime in the 1880 s to Australia with relatives.Am almost sure that they came to the US in 1808. Landed in Maine.

Reddie, Roy - Knoxville & Spruce Pines - Consulting Geologist.[Body of Reddie Family Document]
Roy R. Reddie traveled to Australia as a young man and took up mining engineering, attending school of mines at Charters Towers, Queensland, Australia. At nearby Mount Morgan he married Catherine Shucksmith who had traveled to Australia with her brother. Mr. Reddie worked as a mining engineer in various parts of Australia and the islands of Australia. One of these islands was Woodlark Island, which lies about forty miles east of New Guinea. At one time he worked with former President Herbert Hoover, then a young mining engineer. Roy R. Reddie moved on to Canada shortly after the turn of the century and after spending time working on various Canadian mining operations took a position at Deer Isle, Maine. Mrs. Reddie and her two children, during this time, traveled to England where they lived with an Aunt Elizabeth Roy in Liverpool. The family soon joined Mr. Reddie in Deer Isle. Mr. Reddie’s next move was to New Market, Tennessee with the Graselli company. Here he designed and supervised the building of the ore mills at the zinc mines. His next move was to Emoryville, North Carolina where he practiced his profession at the mica mines of western North Caroline. The family next moved to Knoxville and Mr. Reddie served as consulting engineer to many mining firms in the southeastern states. Mr. Reddie was awarded several US patents and was recognized as an authority on certain phases of mining engineering. He was largely a self-educated man, an outstanding mathematician and had a wealth of engineering knowledge and know how.
