Excerpts from the obituary of Frederich Von Ledebur with additional notes added from information received from Don Silldorff, President of the Mequon, Wisconsin Historical Society:

Frederich Von Ledebur was born May 2, 1836 in Kolberg, in Pommerania (in modern day now belongs to Poland).

He studied in Kamin and was made a teacher in Posen (now Poznen, also in Poland).
He married Wilhelmina Kessube and the young couple emigrated shortly after the wedding to America in 1862. Frederich became known as Frank Ledebur in the US according to information found in later years.

Mr. Ledebur studied at the Theological Seminary in St. Louis and later in Iowa and was ordained as Pastor. He served a community for 6 years in Iowa, then to Washburn, Illinois and later followed a calling to Wisconsin in Town Mequon.

He served the community successfully for 28 years (June 2,1879 - February 28, 1907), dividing his time between Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Thiensville, Wi and St. John's Evangelical Church in Mequon. The Pastor earned $350 a year plus wood, plus .25 per student as a teacher and minister. At this time, school and services were conducted in German. In fact, English services did not begin until 1920.

Information from bulletins printed by the churches in 1953 and 1961:

Trinity: In 1896, a dispute arose with a neighboring congregation concerning the transfer of a member. After many years of fruitless meetings, the congregation resolved to sever it's relationship with the Missouri Synod and became a free and independent congregation. In 1900, the congregation began sending its mission collections to the Wisconsin Synod, finally officially joining the Synod in 1925.

St. John's started as a log church in 1861. In May of 1879, Pastor Lededur started preaching between the two churches. A new church was built in 1881 at a cost of $1600. It's size was 28 feet by 42 feet.

At Trinity in 1879, a new schoolhouse was built. It was 16 x 24 feet. In 1893, a half acre of land to increase the size of the cemetery was purchased from M. Hoffman for $300.

With a new church building in mind, the congregation in Oct 1901 purchased a half acre of land south of the parsonage from M. Hoffman for $350. In the following year, 1902, a new church, the present church was erected at a cost of $6830. E. Schmechel, Ferd. Knepel and Fried. Brueggemann served as the building committee. The dedication service was held on October 12. Pastor Ledebur was privileged to preach the Gospel in this new church only a little over four years, for the Lord in early in 1907 called him to the Church Triumphant.
